THRIFT STORE ASSISTANT MANAGER-BOISE MAIN STREET THRIFT

TASK 1: OPENING AND CLOSING THE STORE

Opening:
  1. Count the money before placing it in the register;
  2. Complete daily cleaning list;
  3. Check the perimeter of the building for donations, and bring them inside.
Closing:
  1. Complete bank deposits and related forms;
  2. Check perimeter of the building for donations & bring them inside;
  3. Secure the building after business hours.

TASK 2: SUPERVISING

  1. Assist manager in assigning workers tasks.
  2. Make sure that all Aworkers@ are staying busy, at all times.
  3. Assist manager in handling personnel problems as they arise.

TASK 3: CUSTOMER AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

  1. Greet all customers as they come in the store.
  2. Offer assistance whenever necessary.
  3. Handle customer problems and complaints whenever necessary.
  4. Project a positive IYR image at all times.
  5. Have basic knowledge of all IYR programs.
  6. Have basic knowledge of the tax advantages of donating to the IYR.
  7. Answer the telephone in a friendly manner and offer assistance as needed.
  8. Work with the other IYR stores, facilities, and programs to help reduce costs.
  9. Work with area agencies on voucher referrals.
  10. Ring up all sales and offer each customer a receipt.

TASK 4: MANAGING THE STORE

  1. Have the daily cleaning list is completed each morning.
  2. Find out the priorities of the day from the manager.
  3. Complete Supervisor's work list, in a timely manner.
  4. Give input to the manager on ways to increase sales.
  5. Keep track of the pick-up and delivery schedule, making sure that all information is complete and accurate. Make sure that we are not over scheduling.
  6. Accept donations in a friendly manner. Assist manager in making sure that all donations are being put in their proper locations.
  7. Keep the back room clean and organized.
  8. Sort, clean, price and display merchandise in a manner that will maximize its value.
  9. Assist manager in completing the monthly markdowns.
  10. Assist manager in completing the semi-annual season change overs.
  11. Answer any questions and handle any problems as they arise.
  12. Keep in good communication with the manager.
  13. Assist manager in the mailing out of random and yard sale letters.
  14. Keep the sidewalk, parking lot, sales floor and back room safe, at all times. Pick up any unsafe items. Notify supervisor of any unsafe areas, that can not be fixed immediately.
  15. Assist manager in to see that the store is making its monthly sales goal, and that the expenses are staying within the budgeted guidelines.
  16. Have adaptability to learn new procedures.
  17. Assist manager in hiring qualified staff.
  18. Learn all phases of the thrift store operation.
  19. Have knowledge of the proper cash register operation.
  20. Assist manager in the ordering of supplies, new merchandise and the weekly and monthly stock trucks.
  21. Read, initial, complete, and follow up on all memos from Administration.
  22. Refer to the Management Manual whenever necessary.
  23. Refer to the Supervisors Manual whenever necessary.
  24. Have knowledge of the IYR personnel policies, and follow company policy at all times.

TASK 5: PICK UP AND DELIVERY SCHEDULING:

Pickups:
  1. Fill out pick up slips, completely, as customers call.
  2. Refer to the Management Manual for complete instructions.
  3. Mark it down so as not exceed weekly limit.
  4. Inform your supervisor of any large time consuming pickups.
Deliveries:
  1. Fill out delivery slips, completely, as customers call.
  2. Refer to the Management Manual for complete instructions.
  3. Mark it down so as not exceed weekly limit, making sure to count it as 2 stops.
  4. Inform your supervisor of any large time consuming deliveries.

TASK 6: PROCESSING DONATIONS

  1. Give a non-cash receipt when receiving donations.
  2. Fill out the form legibly and completely.
  3. Refer to the Management Manual for complete instructions.
  4. Place items in their proper locations in the back room;
  5. Clean, price and test hard lines and put them in the proper locations on the sales floor;
  6. Price, size & hang clothing. Put clothing in proper locations on the sales floor.
  7. Log in appliances when repaired united arrive;
  8. Assist in unloading the distribution truck.

TASK 7: STORE MAINTENANCE

  1. Clean counter area.
  2. Clean windows and doors.
  3. Check jewelry case, fill and straighten as necessary.
  4. Clean and straighten sales floor daily.
  5. Check dressing rooms to make sure they are clean
  6. Clean and check clothing area, straighten and fill daily.
  7. Check hardline shelves to make sure they are clean and organized, fill daily.
  8. Check toy area to make sure it is clean and organized
  9. Vacuum store daily
  10. Clean up weeds and other debris around the perimeter of the building, as needed.
  11. Sweep sidewalks and parking lots, as needed.
  12. Clean break area and restrooms daily, and as needed.
  13. Clean and straighten the as-is room daily.

TASK 8: REFERENCE MATERIALS

Know how to use the following Manuals:
  1. Management Manual: This manual contains instructions for all forms used in the thrift stores.
  2. Supervisors Manual: This manual contains all information needed to effectively supervise your staff.
  3. Personnel Policy Manual: This manual contains all policies related to the thrift stores.

TASK 9: OUTSIDE THE STORE DUTIES

  1. Attend Quarterly Management Meetings, if requested by the Vice President or assistants.
  2. Attend New Store set-ups and openings as requested by the Vice President.
  3. Travel to other locations to assist with the training of new staff, if requested by the Vice President or assistants.
  4. Attend community functions that will increase IYR visibility.

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must have a valid Idaho drivers license .
  3. Driving record must be acceptable to the insurance company.
  4. Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
  5. Must be able to work with little supervision.
  6. Must have good communication skills and organization skills
  7. Must have basic math, reading and writing skills.
