DISTRIBUTION CLERK MOUNTAIN HOME THRIFT

Responsible To: Distribution Manager, Assistant Manager, Driver/Trucking Supervisor and Store Managers

TASK 1: CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

ALL DRIVERS:
  1. Do a daily Pre-Trip walk around on the truck, checking for safety items, check fluid levels, lights, etc.
  2. Fill out all necessary pre-trip paperwork.
  3. Give a copy of the inspection report to the Driver/Trucking Supervisor.
  4. Notify the supervisor of any problem areas noticed.
  5. Clean the cab of the truck daily.
  6. Sweep out the floorboard and box of the trucks daily.
  7. Wash windows (inside and outside), mirrors, and headlights on a weekly basis, or more often, if needed.
  8. Fuel up the truck as needed.
  9. Do not let the tank go below ¼ of a tank.
  10. Wash the trucks when serviced, or more often if needed.
  11. Get trucks in for service as needed.
  12. Discuss the schedule with the Driver/Trucking Supervisor.
  13. Grease the lift gates on a bi-weekly basis.
  14. Clean break room on a regular basis.
  15. Pick up trash and other items left during breaks, etc.
  16. Sweep, mop and Vacuum, as needed.
  17. Clean rest room on a daily basis.

TASK 2: LOADING AND UNLOADING AT THE WAREHOUSE

ALL DRIVERS:
    MORNING:
  1. Check the truck for all items necessary for the day.
  2. Hand Truck
  3. Ropes
  4. Ties
  5. Broom
  6. Taxpayer Guide
  7. Magnets
  8. Moving Blankets
  9. Piano Dolly
  10. Cell Phone (Company use only)
  11. Extra Receipt Book and Pens
  12. Maps
  13. Get a list of pickups from the supervisor, checking to see if any special items are needed (piano dolly, etc).
  14. Load trucks in a way to minimize breakage, tying in items, whenever needed.
  15. Wear company logo shirts.
  16. These must be clean and neat. If you need new shirts get them from the Trucking Supervisor.
  17. These must be visible at all times; the only exception would be on very cold days when you need a coat.
    AFTERNOON:
  1. Unload sorted and unsorted clothing, hardlines, books, appliances, and yard items, putting them in their proper place.
  2. If you are unsure of where something should go, ask a supervisor.
  3. Make sure any warranty items that are marked and tagged.
  4. Inform the Warehouse Manager or Assistant Manager that you have these items.
  5. Turn in all items necessary
  6. Cell Phone, make sure that it is plugged in nightly.
  7. Dump Receipts, coded with the proper cost center
  8. Filled Receipt Books
  9. Keep the pick up slips with the yellow copy of the receipts.
  10. Pick-up Slips for any Missed Stops
  11. Make a daily post-trip inspection on the truck.
  12. Inform the Driver/Trucking Supervisor of any problems.
  13. Give a copy of the inspection report to the Driver/Trucking Supervisor.

OUT OF TOWN DRIVERS:

    MORNING:
  1. Get a list from the “store of the day”; pull supplies, books, New Merchandise and other warehouse items to be shipped.
  2. Leave this list with the Warehouse Supervisor before leaving the warehouse.
  3. Get new merchandise from the Orchard thrift store (Boise Distribution Drivers Only).

LOCAL DRIVERS:

  1. Unload donations, putting them in their proper locations at the Warehouse.
  2. If you are unsure of where something should go, ask a supervisor.

TASK 3: PICKUPS AND DELIVERIES

ALL DRIVERS:

  1. Get a list of all pickups from the Driver/Trucking Supervisor.
  2. Route all pickups to save time and fuel.
  3. Stop at each house or business, and pick up donated items.
  4. Greet each customer.
  5. Offer each customer a receipt, magnet and taxpayer guide.
  6. Have a basic knowledge of the tax advantages of donating to the IYR.
  7. Have basic knowledge of all IYR programs and services.
  8. Treat each donation as though it were the best one that we have ever received.
  9. Thank each customer for their donation
  10. Load trucks in a way to maximize space and minimize breakage.
  11. Make sure that you are tying down any item that may shift and cause damage when the truck is moving.
  12. Notify the Warehouse Manager if you feel that the donation is going to take extra time to pickup so that they may reschedule the donation pickup.
  13. Notify the Manager if there are any donations that are “special” or “unusual”.
  14. Diamonds, Expensive Jewelry, Antiques, etc.
  15. Help unload other trucks, whenever possible.

OUT OF TOWN DRIVERS:

  1. Get a list of all pickups and deliveries from the store. Load all items to be delivered, tying in items as needed.
  2. Call the “store of the day” and let the Manager know that you will be leaving the warehouse and the time that you are expecting to arrive in their store.
  3. This is mandatory, so that they will know when to schedule lunches, etc.
  4. Pick up empty “refer boxes” from the suppliers.
  5. Return to the store and unload all saleable items. Asking the store staff where they will want the items. Keep the back room as neat as possible.
  6. Give the Store Manager any slips for missed or turned down pickups, letting them know the reason why the items were not picked up.
  7. Load trash on the truck for the dump.
  8. Load bailing, appliances, televisions and other “warehouse” items. Ask the supervisor if there are any items that you may have missed.
  9. Help out the store personnel with anything that they may need assistance with. Move furniture, heavy boxes, etc.
  10. Return to the warehouse and unload, putting items in their proper locations.

LOCAL DRIVERS:

  1. Return to the warehouse and unload all donations. Make sure that items are being put into their proper locations.
  2. RLet the Warehouse Supervisor know of any pick ups that were missed or turned down.

TASK 4: TRASH RUNS - ALL DRIVERS

  1. Load trucks with trash. Stack the items to maximize the space.
  2. Separate all garbage according to the requirements of the local landfill.
  3. Unload the trash at the local landfill.
  4. Make sure that you are taking the hazardous waste to the proper location.
  5. Give any receipts to the Driver/Trucking Supervisor.
  6. Make sure that you are coding them with the proper 2-letter location code.

TASK 5: STORE STOCK

  1. Get a list of items needed from the Store Manager.
  2. Leave this list with the Warehouse Supervisor before leaving the warehouse.
  3. Get new merchandise from the Orchard Thrift Store and load it on the stock truck, if necessary.
  4. Load truck, filling the list to the best of your ability.
  5. Finish filling the truck with other saleable items.
  6. Fill out any necessary paperwork for the DOT.
  7. or example: a trip log for all runs over 100 miles.
  8. Unload the items into the store, placing furniture, televisions, and appliances on the sales floor all other items into the back room, keeping it as organized as possible.
  9. Ask the store staff where they will want the items.
  10. Load up all sorted and unsorted clothing, appliances, TV’s, and any other warehouse items to be taken back to the warehouse.
  11. Ask the supervisor if there are any items that you may have missed.
  12. If you have any room left, call a larger store that is on your way back to the warehouse to find out if they need to be cleaned out.
  13. Stop by that store on the way back to the warehouse and get any of their “warehouse” items.
  14. Ask the supervisor if there are any items that you may have missed.
  15. Unload the truck at the warehouse, putting the items in their proper places.
  16. Make sure all returned warranty items have been marked and tagged, with a warranty repair tag.
  17. Inform the Warehouse Manager or Assistant that you have these items.

TASK 6: SUPERVISION - ALL DRIVERS

  1. Keep all community service workers and untrained co-drivers busy; explaining to them what is needed.
  2. Do not assume that they know how to read a map, lift heavy objects, run a hand truck, load a truck, etc. Communication is the key.

TASK 7: CUSTOMER SERVICE - ALL DRIVERS

  1. Answer any incoming calls, when the phone has rung 3 or more times.
  2. If you do not know what is expected, let the customer know that we will be right with them, then put them on hold.
  3. Offer assistance to customers, as needed.
  4. Do not let anyone “wander around” the warehouse.
  5. Receive drop off donations, writing receipts, as needed.
  6. Put the items in their proper locations in the warehouse.
  7. Help to promote a positive IYR image at all times.
  8. Follow company policy at all times.
  9. Call the Warehouse Manager or Assistant Manager in the event of any problems.
  10. Customer Complaint
  11. Damage to any property
  12. Injured Employee
  13. Any pickup that needs special attention

TASK 8: SAFETY - ALL DRIVERS

  1. Wear gloves for all pickups.
  2. Always have a spotter, outside of the vehicle, any time that the truck is going in reverse.
  3. Always have a spotter, outside of the vehicle, any time that the truck is going into a tight situation.
  4. Use ice melt on the lift gates, as needed.
  5. Practice safe lifting techniques.
  6. Point out all unsafe practices to the employee as well as the supervisor.
  7. Attend regular safety meetings.

TASK 9: WEEKLY MEETINGS – ALL DRIVERS

  1. All drivers are to attend a weekly staff meeting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must have current drivers license. Driving record must be acceptable to the insurance company.
  3. Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
  4. Must be able to work with little supervision.
  5. Must be able to pass a bi-annual DOT physical.
  6. Must have basic math, reading and writing skills.
  7. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  8. Must be able to meet all Idaho Youth Ranch employment requirements.
