HOUSE PARENTS

MISSION OUTCOMES RELATED TO THIS POSITION

The House Parent(HP) couples have primary responsibility for the supervision and mentoring of 8-10 youth residents. The successful HP ensure that youth attend classes and maintain a home-like nurturing environment while establishing youth home family rituals and traditions. The HP builds trust and provides consistent emotional support through praise, affection, and empathy. The HP recognizes youth achievement while setting limits for behavior and establishing goals for the future. The HP facilitates positive interaction by exhibiting effective communication skills and developing strong mutually respectful relationships with the youth in the Lodge. The HP teaches and encourages assigned children in the development of good habits and values. The HP normally work a schedule of eight days on and four days off. The HP couple works together as one cohesive unit, under the supervision of the Program Director. House Parents are supported by on-site professional staff including: Master’s level Clinicians, Educational Specialist, Recreation Specialist, Equine Therapy/Livestock Specialist, Program Director, Maintenance staff and Cook (who helps HP’s and youth prepare meals).

  2. Lodge conditions help youth, family and employees feel safe and secure;
  3. House Parents are well trained to provide services for youth;
  4. Residents and families are properly orientated during the intake process;
  5. Program services are coordinated in a way that enhances the residents’ stay;
  6. House Parents are trained and orientated on program philosophy;
  7. Documentation is kept in compliance with agency and regulatory agencies’ standards;
  8. House Parents are an integral part of the family environment.

TASKS

  1. Orient youth to the lodge environment upon arrival;
  2. Prepare meals;
  3. Assign chores;
  4. Tutor youth and encourage achievement of educational goals;
  5. Provide safe and meaningful recreational activities;
  6. Provide individual mentoring;
  7. Transport youth to appointments, outings, and educational events, as necessary;
  8. Perform minor facility maintenance;
  9. Perform administrative tasks, such as daily documentation, meetings, training, budgeting, incident reporting, and the scheduling of medical appointments;
  10. Supports efforts of other staff, including other Lodge Parents;
  11. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Education: BA in Social Service area preferred
  2. Experience: Previous experience working with at-risk youth required; house parent or foster parent experience preferred.
  3. Age: 25 years of age
  4. Driver's License: Must hold a valid Idaho driver's license or obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  5. First Aid & CPR: Must hold a currently valid qualification in first aid and CPR or complete the requirements within 90 days of hire.
  6. Health: Must be in good health as certified by a physician within 30 days of employment. Must have the physical ability to perform essential job duties and responsibilities.
  7. Other: Must be a married couple married a minimum of 2 years, and have no more than two (2) children residing with the couple.
  8. Schedule: Lodge Parents normally work a schedule of 8 days on and 4 days off.
  9. Salary: Starting salary for a House Parent couple will be $50,000/couple, with Lodge housing and meals provided. Salary includes health and retirement benefits.
